Depok is a central governance city located on West or north of Bogor City also directive border on DKI Jakarta, Tangerang and Bekasi. At the early time Depok is a district inside Parung of Bogor City. In 1976, housing started to develop by National Housing Company and developer and followed by developing education centers, trading centers, tourist city and water absorbing city
In 1981 the government formed Depok as an Administrative City. Being an Administrative City, Depok developed rapidly on governance, development and society respectively. This rapid development attracted many realms to establish service centers. Some hotels, public buildings, restaurants and others facilities crowd this city. If we look at the trend, Depok is a complete place as a resident place for every layer of society. Now It is not only dominated by the low-middle class housing but also the up class one. Even the town houses and real estates have already been there.
Other mushrooming commercial properties in this city are shopping centers such as :
- Depok Town Square
- ITC Depok and
- Margo City Square
Beside property, one becomes the concern for the society is the education facilities. The Presence of University of Indonesia has given big contribution for development of this city, particularly in education. Also for other private universities such as Gunadarma and Pancasila surely offers alternative for the residence of this city to choose education as they want. There are some elementary and secondary schools which respectively also attention for the government.
Because of the traffic some people are not interested to live in this city.Although Depok has developed rapidly, it’s not balanced with sufficient infrastructure, for instance, the heavy traffic jam still becomes a serious problem for the people especially for those who have many activities in Jakarta. Some people already identify Depok with traffic jam, since in rush hours, in the morning and in the afternoon the traffic jam obviously happens. The cause of the traffic is the access for entering this city only from Margonda Street.
Depok’s government apparently has been trying hard to overcome this traffic jam. One of the programs is planning to make highway on some access streets to Jakarta. Unfortunately this program has not been approved yet, since the land deliverance is still not complete. It is convince many things must be arranged to make Depok as favorite place to live in for all society.
Truly, if all infrastructures are provided well, this city may be one of promising place to live in. With one condition that the arrangement of the city must be preserve well so the environment is still pure. If the arrangement of this city is abandoned, it will turn up like Jakarta with all the problems, traffic jam and flood in heavy rain.
